The F2 Light redefines the EN B class with unparalleled performance, driven by its cutting-edge VPA (Variable Pressure A-Attachment) technology and innovative hybrid 3-2 (2.5) line layout.
This lightweight glider sets new benchmarks for both comfort and performance, thanks to its differential hybrid 3-2 technology. This array of tech significantly reduces drag and enhances overall efficiency.
Comfort in flight is crucial for maximizing a glider's potential, and the F2 Light excels in this area. It achieves a comfortable flying experience through a meticulous combination of features, including pitch stability, aerofoil solidity, responsive rear riser steering, effortless launching and flare, high top-end speed, efficient glide, and refined handling in thermals. Its well-balanced feedback, brake line pressure, speed bar response, and durable yet lightweight canopy all contribute to its exceptional performance.
The hybrid 3-2 line layout drastically reduces drag, resulting in substantial glide improvements. The advanced shark-nose aerofoil complements this with enhanced aerodynamic efficiency.
The F2 Light carries on the groundbreaking 4-way split-A attachment point system, known as VPA, which elevates the EN B class with superior solidity and collapse resistance.
Technology
In addition to the class-leading technology, the F2 Light features:
- Efficient rear riser steering
- Nitinol rods
- Advanced shark-nose aerofoil
- Unique 4-way split-A attachment point system
- Durable, lightweight construction
Hybrid 3-2 line layout
The hybrid 3-2 line layout significantly reduces drag compared to the traditional 3-line setup. This advancement translates into notable performance gains, including:
- Enhanced glide
- Greater solidity
- Improved efficiency
- Higher top-end speed
- Increased stability at all speeds
Flow was the company who invented the 3-2 line technology (sometimes referred to as the 2.5 liner), so we bring extensive know-how and expertise to this advanced design.
Advanced shark nose
Our advanced shark nose profile is a pitch stable aerofoil derived from our high-end 2-liners, which means:
- More solidity
- Higher internal pressure
- Less oscillations
- More efficient glides
- Higher comfort
3D cut optimization and advanced sail tensioning
Each panel and diagonal has been carefully dimensioned and analyzed using advanced computer models to ensure the optimal balance of chord and span-wise sail tension. This meticulous process results in a canopy with reduced spanwise distortion, providing a tighter and more responsive feel. The sail's flex characteristics are perfectly tuned to deliver ideal feedback.
A well-tensioned sail is crucial for giving pilots the precise feedback they need to understand the air dynamics around them. This is particularly important while thermalling, where being able to sense subtle changes in lift and sink helps in finding and staying in the core longer.
VPA system (variable pressure A-attachment)
The 4-way A-attachment VPA system not only enhances the structural stability of the glider's leading edge — maintaining a positive Angle of Attack even at negative angles — but also significantly improves the ease of takeoff. This innovative system optimally positions the A-attachment points geometrically, leading to a more even distribution of forces along the leading-edge span.
One of the standout features of the VPA system is its effect on takeoff inflation. It simplifies the inflation process, making the F2 Light one of the easiest gliders to inflate and launch. When you engage the speed bar, the VPA shifts pressure towards the rear lines of the "4-line split", stabilizing the leading edge and providing better structural support. This shift is especially effective during critical AoA scenarios, such as when fully on the speed bar.
The VPA system incorporates a design approach similar to high-end gliders, where A-attachment points are set further back. This shift in the centre of mass towards the front lines results in a stronger, more collapse-resistant leading edge, particularly effective at lower AoAs. Overall, this combination of features enhances both the takeoff experience and performance in turbulent conditions.
New racing arc
The F2 Light features a newly redesigned arc that provides exceptional roll authority for thermalling and centering in lift. With increased aerodynamic wash-out near the tips, it optimizes glide angle and enhances roll stability at higher speeds.
This new arc design, inspired by our high-end gliders, combines a performance-focused approach with overall line savings compared to the original version.
